Across the county and nation, senior citizens on a fixed income struggle to keep their heads above water as prices increase. Just go to the grocery store, or out to eat and you will be shocked. As property values sky rocket, soon their corresponding tax bills will jump. All of this on top of inflation that recently was clocked at 6% per year. Many are already struggling to maintain their current standard of living.
J. Janus Jr, of Sycamore Township is a disabled veteran and senior citizen living on a fixed income.
“Inflation has already stretched my budget to the limit! When I learned that Issue 29 will double my parks property tax I had to speak up, or next year I might have to decide between groceries, medicine or my tax bill. Now is not the time to raise our taxes.”
Political parties and county leadership should not take our senior citizens for granted. They should listen to and pay attention to their needs and concerns. Increasing taxes by over $200,000,000 will be catastrophic for many. After paying off their homes, senior struggle to pay rising property taxes. Adding to that tax burden will result in more seniors missing property tax payments, having a lien placed on their property and ultimately facing foreclosure.
Vote no on issue 29.
